Second grade students need to be able to recognize and draw shapes that have certain attributes, like a given number of angles or equal faces. Second graders should be able to separate a rectangle into rows and columns of same-size squares, and count to find the total number that "fit" into a shape. Students should also be able to cut circles into two, three, or four equal parts, and describe the circle as "two halves", "three thirds" or "four fourths".
