Second graders need to build on their first grade knowledge of tens and ones to understand three-digit numbers! In a three-digit number, students should know that the first digit is the hundreds place, the second digit is the tens place, and the third digit is the ones place. Students are expected to compare numbers with three-digits to tell whether the number is greater than, less than, or equal to another number. Students will need to be able to count up to 1000, and also read and write numbers up to 1000. Students need to be able to skip count by 5s, 10s and 100s, too. Click on the links below to practice place value, counting, and skip counting.
This chart shows you how to read and write numbers up to 1000! Using this chart, you should be able to write numbers in written form, expanded form, model form, and using hundreds, tens and ones.
